The architectural design studio in the 1st semester, B.Arch introduces architectural fundamentals to the new students of architecture. Apart from basic anthropometrics; concepts of space, circulation and forms; and functional layouts and spatial interpretations of various basic structures, the 1st Semester focuses on composition of basic elements and forms of design. Past studios have included designs of: A single room pod; Welcome arch; A bus shelter; A public clock; and Measure drawing exercises.
The studios from 2014 led by Ar. Navnath Khanade and Ar. Sudhir Surthi have explored composition of cubes with attention to a selected climatic context and incremental stages of complexities in the design brief. The projects seek to establish strong design fundamentals that incorporate sensitive responses to climatic context from the earliest stage of education.
Studio faculty have included: Ar. Navnath Khanade; Ar. Sudhir Surthi; Ar. Nagaraj; Ar. Srinivas; Ar. Chetan Shiv Prasad; Ar. Smitha Hemmige; Ar. Gisha Joy; Prof. George Kuruvila; Prof. Smitha MB; Ar. Tulasi Ram; Ar. Jai Ganesh; and Ar. Adityakiran Tadipatti
